Today we comparatively had a satisfactory amount of work done because everyone was concentrating, and we were all very willing to work. Theo and Sophie worked on thinking of strategies of how to present our gathered data in an effective way, and Mr.Arnold helped us to show a better demonstration of the data in our chart. We labelled and divided the data so that it would make sense, and would be understandable. After the chart was complete, Sophie figured out the total sum of the amount of photocopying done per average year and month, and how much percent of paper in HKA was used for photocopying. Vanessa who was done with her research, started creating a keynote presentation for Monday, and it will be edited by Sophie after it's done. Hugo also was motivated too, so he completed his research, and furthermore created a cycle of how photocopying works and what steps lead to it.
Today, Hugo missed the lesson which gave each person more work to do. First of all, Theo organized and put data into various demonstrations such as charts,and graphs. This chart indicates the amount of paper used for each photocopying machine, and what the total sum was for each month. We will also make a chart for the amount of photocopying done in an average month/year. Vanessa put all of our information together in a presentation,and Sophie answered the questions that we made in meeting 1. When we had our first meeting, we made a list of questions that were compulsory to answer in order to accomplish our task goals. We promised to answer them on our 5th meeting, but we have to gather Hugo's ideas too. For that reason the answered questions will be posted on Friday. Hugo's job was to make a poster about the sequence of photocopying pieces of paper, but that will be done soon between our group. Vanessa will briefly finish our keynote, and Sophie will edit it while also adding more chunks of information and data into it.
Today, Mr.Arnold told us that he had a list of things we had to complete during the lesson. A few of these goals were to complete the Big 6 sheet, to have a brief and detailed plan of what we wanted to accomplish during 2 weeks of this project, and to finish two reflections. Vanessa and I went over the Big 6 planner, and we asked Mr.Hemsley and Mr.Arnold to check through it. They both said it was well done, so we asked them specifically about the task definition. From that, I think we did our best in our Big 6 planer. Then, we started writing down what we had to accomplish in detail, and a finalized plan was created in a table.(under this reflection entry). First of all, we wrote down the compulsory information needed for our goal, distributed roles, and wrote down when we wanted each task to be completed. It is feasible that there will be more information needed for us, but that will be added as we complete our tasks. This will always help us to stay on track, and we will check things off when we make progress. After all this we had extra time left, but I had already posted two reflections on weebly, so we earned time to continue our research. We continued researching about questions and facts relevant to photocopying. The research isn't done, but we will expect it to be done tomorrow. And from what we investigated, and tomorrow I will write a blog entry for the information we gathered. A part of our task definition is to find a efficient way to use HKA's photocopying machines. We will discuss about what we are capable of doing, after all of our information is gathered.
This is our plan from 30/Nov/2011 to 13/Dec/2011
<OUR TASK DEFINITION>
* TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH PAPER IS USED FOR PHOTOCOPYING.
* TO FIND A PRODUCTIVE AND EFFICIENT(LESS WASTEFUL) WAY TO USE THE PHOTOCOPYING MACHINES IN HKA.
Today, I (Sophie) visited Mr.Birch and asked him what I should do to investigate the cost of directly printing multiple pieces of paper from computers, and to find out the cost it takes in the process of copying one piece from laptops, and photocopying that multiple pieces of that. From those numbers, I should be capable of finding a cheaper and effective way to photo copy by comparing the costs, since our task definition is to find a productive way to use the photo copying machines. I concluded that I should go to Mrs.Anna tomorrow and ask her for the statistics about how much photo copying is done per year(from each machine), and how much HKA spends on the photocopying machine. That would figure out the ratio between the cost,and the amount of photo copying done per year. I already have numbers that indicate the quantity of photo copying done from each machine, that eliminates the photo copiers in teacher's rooms. Compared to yesterday, we aren't accelerating our pace, because today was a half day and we only had 50 minutes of class.
My plan for tomorrow is to spend time efficiently. I'll specifically give every roles.
HKA buys paper from RICOH.
Each pack contains 500 pieces of paper, and they cost HKD 24.20. Tomorrow, Sophie(myself) will examine how much paper we have ordered, and how much it increased.
During the first meeting everyone was introduced to the Science and Math collaborative task, and we were divided into groups. First of all, the resources in HKA that we're wasting were examined, and it was known that the main elements were paper, water, and recycling. Since humans have ascendancy and domination over all the natural resources, the conclusion for all of the components were that they were being overused and that the whole society needs a strategy to decrease the amount used.
As the copying machine our responsibility and task definition was to find a way for productively and articulately using the photocopying machine. The information we needed was how much photocopying was done per year/month, the cost of photocopying multiple pieces of paper, the cost of printing multiple pieces of paper directly from our laptops to compare, the increase and decrease of photocopying in HKA overtime, and data from the photocopying machine to find the ratio of the amount of photo copying done to the time the photocopying machine existed. Resources we would often use and rely on were teachers, the photo copying machine, and the portal to gather data.I (Sophie) learned how to access to the photo copying machine(Thanks, Mr Hemsley!!:D) and printed out the amount of copying via the machine.
