Below is the final Keynote Presentation that we showed to the whole grade and Mr. Musco.
Today we worked on the Keynote. Darcy got the first two thirds of it done. There are no transitions, but we are going to do those next lesson, when we finish our Keynote. Today Iman and Michael wrote a conclusion. This is so that we know what exactly we did, and what we have learned during this unit. While this was happening, Clio was helping Darcy with the Keynote. She would help Darcy word things so that they make sense, and she would help Darcy come up with ideas on how to layout the Keynote. This helped Darcy do two thirds of the Keynote. This also made it easy for us to write our reflections because we had already done our works, so then we had plenty of time to write our reflections.
Today was a productive class. Clio was able to organize all the research she did on Recycled Paper, Iman made graphs, and Darcy got the first part of the presentation done. We just have to finish our presentation, and write a script, so that we know what to say during our presentation. For our presentation, we have split it up into three parts. The three sections are, what we did, what we found out, and what we can do. So far, we have gotten what we did done. Next lesson we will be doing what we found out. After we have written made the Keynote, we will put in tr
Today Michael and Clio were sick. This meant that Iman and Darcy had to get a lot of work done. First Iman started putting some of our data into graphs, tables and charts. One example is a graph about how much waste HKA has from paper. He made a pie chart on Excel. This chart comes apart, and it shows you how much waste we produce in weight and many more things. Darcy started the lesson off by finishing answering the questions. She had a few left so she answered them first. Then Darcy had to rewrite some of our facts because she did some of the calculations wrong. During this lesson our group realized that we should start getting to work on our Keynote presentation, so that we don't have to do it all at the last minute. After this realization Darcy got to work on planning out our Keynote. For the rest of the lesson, Darcy worked on the Keynote and Iman created Graphs. Today we worked on our plan. Clio had was getting details for different paper suppliers. She managed to get a list with addresses and telephone numbers. All these suppliers sell recycled paper, and they are all located in Hong Kong. Michael finished his research on the Life Cycle of Paper last lesson and for homework. Today he was able to make and complete the Life Cycle of Paper poster. Today in class Iman first learned how to make an Excel spread sheet. Once he came back, he worked on writing an article about paper. This paper is for awareness, and to tell people what kind of situation we are in. Today Darcy spent time answering the questions. She also managed to find out facts, like how tall a stack of all the paper HKA uses would be. Today at the beginning of the lesson we got together in Mr. Arnolds room. Up on the board he had a list of goals that he wants us to get accomplished during this lesson. These goals were to complete the Big6 planner, to have a detailed plan of what we want to get done, and to have two reflections on our page on the website. All these tasks had to be completed by the end of the lesson, and they had to be signed off by a teacher. Since we already finished our Big6 plan during the first lesson, this gave us lots of time to get the other tasks finished. We then moved on to the plan. We already had a bit of a plan, it just wasn't that detailed. Since we already had an idea of what we wanted to do, we made a new document with a more detailed plan. On this plan we wrote what we wanted to get done in detail, we wrote who will be performing the task, and we wrote when we want it to be finished. We will be able to add more things to our list, as we check items off. This will help us stay on track and it will help us make sure we get things done. The first two reflections were already written, so we didn't need to write the whole thing. After we finished everything, we checked with the teacher. The teachers said it was good. Afterwards, we got started on our assignments. We did this for the rest of the lesson. Today we found facts, answered questions and wrote down what we need to find out to answer some of our questions. Clio did research on recycled paper. The things she researched included the benefits of recycled paper, the costs of recycled paper, and comparisons between regular paper and recycled paper. Michael was looking at facts. He was looking at how trees are involved with paper. Iman and I spent the lesson looking at paper bills from 2009. Even though they aren't from this year, they still gave us a pretty good idea about how much HKA spends on paper. We will be putting the information we have gathered from the bills into a chart next session. Since today we had a shorter class, we couldn't get as much done as we would have liked to, but we were still very productive. During our first session this project, we were introduced to the project, we got into our groups, we filled out the Big6 sheet, and we came up with a plan. When we were creating our plan, we were working together. For our project, we thought that we should start with questions that we want answered, and what the main question we wanted answered. Once we came up with questions, we started researching the answers. To answer some of the questions, we needed resources from the school. These resources are things like bills, and we weren't able to get those resources yet. Since we didn't have all the tools we need to find all the answers for our questions, we were mainly focusing on the questions that could be answered with internet research. As a group, we decided that the main topic for this project is Recycled Paper vs. Normal Paper. We chose this because one is cheaper than the other, and one is more environmentally friendly. We don't know which one is less expensive, and which one is more environmentally friendly but we want to find these answers. Overall, we didn't have much time to work on the project in groups because the teachers spent a lot of the time explaining the project to us. |
